This is my entry for the 2025 Confounding Calendar

You are that Orange face , let's call it Kye. Use cursor keys to move around. Z to Undo. R to restart.  The goal is to get at least four of the stars. If you want you can try to get more stars. But don't blame me if it takes you a lot of time.

This time for some reason I felt like just making a Kye level. I'd like more people to experience or remember what it felt like to solve a Kye level. The puzzle game where the default level size was 30x20. It sounds massive nowadays. And it is.

The truth is that the original Kye comes from a time before the modern Puzzle Level Design rules became a thing. It had a tendency towards making these giant levels that are composed of smaller puzzles, but they were actually interconnected. Be happy, though, because at least there's an undo button this time. Also, you don't have to find all 6 Stars. If you only find 4 it's fine. It's fine. I promise.

I knew that just making a Kye level may not be spicy enough so I'm actually including a more obscure aspect of Kye's history.  "Kye 3.0" was a daringly-named  unofficial sequel to the original Kye. And for some reason it included a new element: TELEPORTER BLOCKS. Definitely something that was ahead of its time in 2003. Kye is already a very complex game in which the interactions of just 4 or 5 kinds of objects already allow for insane machines, so to add teleporters to the equation was insane. What's even more baffling is that Kye 3.0 never actually included a level that actually made use of these teleporters. I have faint memories of the first level being updated to have some teleporters that weren't necessary and that was it.

When I made Xye, I included these teleporters just cause. I think I just wanted to make the greatest version of Kye with all the features that were ever created. It took me many years to really appreciate the teleporters as a feature and all that they can enable.

Since not a lot of you are familiar with Kye, I tried to keep the variety of objects to a minimum. So we don't have Kye staples like turning blocks, pushers or magnets. But when you make levels like these, it gets you to appreciate the arrow blocks. Just round arrows, and earths can do so much.\

I'd like to apologize to the organizers of the confounding calendar for once again making a gigantic one screen level. But I must say, even though it doesn't seem so. This is designed to be a single puzzle. In order to get the 6 stars, you'll need to understand the level as a single puzzle .
